Available Courses
If you are in need of training, please do not hesitate to reach out to safety@cce.nasa.gov. We can help you find a course. Listed are courses we have and can host. Majority of our courses are held in Fairbanks Alaska - but other locations may be possible.
- Wilderness First Aid w/ CPR (WFA)
ALL field researchers are required to have at minimum a current first aid w/ CPR certification with at least one current WFA certification in the field team-ABoVE Safety and Logistics hosts WFA one or two times a year (in conjunction with January ABoVE Science Team Meeting and Fairbanks Alaska in the spring) - Northern Environments Field Safety
ALL field researchers are required to have this course or 2 years experience in arctic field conditions. The orientation video is an introduction to this course-Typically hosted every spring in Fairbanks Alaska or as needed (in house instructor) - Boat Training
Field researchers are only required to take this if they plan to operate ANY type of boat during their ABoVE field work.
Alaska Water Wise (AWW)-This is a 1-day classroom course on boating and navigating water, a full course description can be found at http://dnr.alaska.gov/parks/boating/waterws1.htm-Hosted as needed in Fairbanks Alaska (in house instructor)
Boat Control
-This is a on the water course that can be taken with/after AWW-Hosted as needed in Fairbanks Alaska (in house instructor)
- ATV Training
Field researchers are only required to take this if they plan to operate an ATV during their ABoVE field work
ATV Safety Institute ATV Rider Course-This is a 1 day practical course. A short online portion must be completed before the course-Hosted as needed in Fairbanks Alaska (in house instructor) - Snowmachine Training/ Snowmobile Training
Field researchers are only required to take this if they plan to operate a snowmachine during their ABoVE field work
-This is typically a 1 day classroom and practical course-Hosted as needed in Alaska - Chainsaw Training
Field researchers are only required to take this if they plan to operate a chainsaw during their ABoVE field work
Orientation-This is a 1/2 day classroom and practical course. If you have used a chainsaw before and need a refresher this will be adequate-Hosted as needed in Fairbanks Alaska (in house instructor)
Training-This is a 1 day classroom and practical course. If you have never used a chainsaw you will need this course-Hosted as needed in Fairbanks Alaska
