In May 2016, the ABoVE team co-sponsored workshops with POLAR Knowledge Canada and the governments of Northwest Territories and Yukon. Participants included US and Canadian researchers, aboriginal organizations and governments, and representatives from industry and non-governmental organizations.
The objectives were:
- identify key management/research needs and questions
- exchange information on ongoing and planned research and monitoring
- solicit feedback on the POLAR Operational Science Plan and planned ABoVE activities
- discuss best practices for engaging and including communities and Indigenous Knowledge holders in research/monitoring activities
- explore collaboration opportunities in the context of ongoing monitoring and research and management/research questions
Prior to the Yellowknife and Whitehorse meetings, ABoVE and POLAR representatives met with Canadian Forest Service researchers and managers in Edmonton, AB. Details and presentations for each meeting can be found in the navigation above.
